Crivitz High School Sophomore class really knows their ABCs! On Tuesday, March 24, 2009, CPR instructors with Crivitz Rescue Squad and Wausaukee Rescue Squad volunteered their time and NWTC volunteered the use of equipment to train the Crivitz High School Sophomore class in the basic life-saving skills of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or CPR. The ABC’s they learned stand for airway, breathing and circulation, the basics of CPR. Barb Tobison of Crivitz Rescue Squad applied for a grant from the American Heart Association to be able to train the area students, and while she has not heard if the grant will be received or not at this point, Crivitz Rescue Squad feels so strongly about everyone learning these life saving skills that they will help provide this training for students to learn CPR until the grant is received, or donations can be raised. Knowing CPR gives people some empowerment to take control in a very scary situation, and while it is no guarantee that a life will be saved, it is the best, and only chance some people get. “If we know CPR is being performed before we arrive on scene, we know that our patient has a better chance for survival” said a spokesperson for Crivitz Rescue Squad. “We feel that everyone should know CPR and a great start is teaching it to the students in our local community. There are now 62 more people in our community that have learned basic CPR training that could help save a life. That’s an outstanding accomplishment, and these kids should be very proud of themselves for taking this on.” Crivitz Rescue Squad, the CPR instructors, and NWTC would like to thank Crivitz High School for recognizing how important this is, and letting us come in to teach their students. A portion of this program has been funded by the Woodland Trails ATV Club.
